Using Music To Move You Forward

If you aren’t using music to move you forward you are missing out.

Music can change your state in a moment, help you drop into a memory, get your toes tapping and help you learn faster and retain more.

Music can be used to help you be more efficient in your work and learning. It can be used to get your heart pumping and it can be used to help you connect to past memories or future accomplishments.

Are you consciously using music to shape your day and mood?

Never in the history of the world have we had so much easy access to all types of music.

From our phones, computers, Alexa’s or Google Homes we can command to hear just about any type of music you can imagine.

Previously we had to listen to whatever was available on the radio or we were restricted to where we could hear the music played on our record players or home stereos.

Then we had the Walkman, Boom Boxes and later iPods and MP3 Players.

It’s one thing to listen to music, but are you getting the most out of the music you listen to?

How You Can Use Music In Your Day

I have very eclectic music tastes that I use to my advantage throughout my day and week to shape and mould my state of mind, my efficiency and even to get me up from my desk and moving around.

A day in the life of my musical choices looks something like this…

  • Devi Prayer – morning gratitude session
  • Spanish Guitar Playlist – physical book reading
  • Latin Party Anthems Playlist – for morning low concentration tasks
  • Classical Composers or Accelerated Learning Playlists – for deep concentration work.
  • Pump Up Playlist – for when I need to get up and change my mood to set myself up for something big.
  • Memory Playlist – containing music I associate to memories past or to be created.

I don’t listen to music all day. I also enjoy some quiet time or conversations with others.

As you can see, there are many different moods that can be created by these different kinds of music.

Music Can Improve Your Efficiency

I was first clued into using music to improve my performance in learning and understanding way back in the mid-1980s when I was introduced to Accelerated Learning techniques.

What I learnt back then was that certain tempos of music help the brain to get into a more receptive state.

Classical Music For ConcentrationI remember that Baroque composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Hadyn were suggested.

Many Baroque compositions are at the optimal tempo to get our brains into the pattern to learn.

I rushed out and bought as many CDs of classical music as I could and would listen to them when studying.

Back then it wasn’t an option to listen in my office.

I was in training and we had lots of reading, so I would often take my books home for a reading and study day.

When I could do that found that when I listened to the music whilst studying I would power through the materials. What would take me a day or more in the office I would often finish in a few hours.

Now I have a range of music I can listen to when I am in deep study or concentration mode.

We have access to so many different options. I can go online and listen to playlists of classical music, piano music or even the more advanced accelerated learning music.

This music has been specifically created to tap into the brain wave frequencies to create an optimal learning state.

Using Music To Move You – Literally

The other big way I use music daily when I am working at my desk is to listen to a range of modern songs. I have playlists that contain anything from Mninem & Snoop Dog to Pink & Katy Perry!

These playlists I listen to when I am doing general work that I can do, while also listening to music with lyrics.

Music To Pump You UpMy playlists are carefully curated to include positive messages, uplifting tunes and interspersed with songs that you just cannot help but jump up and have to dance to.

Sitting at a desk for hours on end is not good for us humans at all.  Having tunes that I am compelled to jump out of my chair and dance to every hour or so, has been a lifesaver for me.

Musical Memories & Anchors

Do you have songs, that when you hear them, you are transported back to that moment?

For couples, there’s often a song that reminds them of when they first met or their wedding.

For mothers, there are probably songs from when their children were young.

Music anchors in powerful memories.

There is a beautiful man on Facebook – Simon – The Songaminute Man. His father was a singer in his younger days and now is battling memory issues and all that brings with it.

When his father sings he returns to that amazing man – he is transformed for the song.

Simon started posting videos on Facebook of him in the car with his father singing. It turned into his father recording an album – a lifelong ambition. Simon advocates for others like his father and raises money for more research and support.

The point of writing about this is that music is deeply embedded in our brains and often anchors us to good times.

Are you using this? Are you using music to remind you of past memories, to change your state or mood in a moment?

Music Moves In So Many Ways

There are 3 of the main ways I use music in my day to uplift my spirits, reconnect, learn faster, concentrate, get some exercise and movement.

All of them help me to feel good knowing that I am moving forward and enjoying the journey.

How will you use music in your day? Where could you add it? Could you set up your own playlist?

Yours with music in my ears and joy in my heart,

LIVE, LOVE & THRIVE
