Laughing for life is part of the natural order.
Laughing, smiling, chuckling it’s all in us from when we are very young.
Parents often recall the first time their baby smiled or chuckled. It’s important!
You can find lots of videos on the internet with babies laughing at the simplest of things.
Babies and children have contagious laughter, and they are pros at it! When they notice you are laughing too, they will milk it for all it is worth.
Afterwards, you feel amazing, you are smiling, and you feel like you’ve had a workout!
Are You Laughing For Life?
For many of us, it’s a long time between laughs. We are so busy, stressed, don’t have the time, find it frivolous or it doesn’t seem like we should be when other things aren’t going so well.
And yet, when we do laugh, it makes us feel better, we forget our stress, we realise how alive we feel, it makes us open up and be more creative. Laughing takes the sting out of the hard times.
What has happened to us? Why do we need to wait for babies, children, pets or other external things to happen for us to laugh?
Do you find that you don’t laugh as much as you used to?
Is it time for you to laugh at simple things like a baby or child?
I’m going to ask you and I want you to really think about it and answer this.
When was the last time you laughed so hard you snorted?
Seriously, if you can’t think of a time when YOU snorted whilst laughing, then think of a time when someone else snorted.
Think back to that time. Where were you? What happened after the snort? What happened to make you or the other person laugh that hard?
Are you smiling as you think about it?
I’m smiling as I am writing about this because I remember times when I have snorted and when others have too!
Do you remember how hard it was to stop laughing?
Do you remember almost stopping and then the laughter started all over again?
How alive did you feel? Did you want that feeling to end?
Even when the laughter died down, I bet you were smiling from ear to ear.
Can you think of a time when in a very serious or solemn situation someone said something that made you laugh, or want to laugh?
Did it change your mood or attitude? Did it lighten up the situation? Did it make you feel more open and receptive to what was going on?
Even in the most solemn of situations and settings, there is a place for laughter. You can be serious, get a serious message across and still have space for some humour and laughter.
I am always so pleased when in a serious drama movie there is some light-heartedness and space to laugh. It is human, it is real. Life is not all drama…. Unless you let it be.
